Overview

By default, clearskies manages AI provider access on your behalf. With AI Providers, you can bring your own API keys (BYOK) to pay for token usage at cost, directly on your account with each provider. This separates your clearskies platform fees from your base model costs, giving you full visibility into what you’re spending on each. BYOK is also useful when your organization already has enterprise agreements with a provider and wants to route spend through those contracts, or when a provider is already security-approved and using your own key simplifies procurement. You can switch between your own keys and clearskies-managed access at any time — your agents keep running either way.

What you’ll need

  • Workspace admin access in clearskies (for BYOK and model management)
  • An API key from the provider you want to configure (if using BYOK)

Supported providers

clearskies supports the following AI providers:
  • OpenAI — GPT model family
  • Anthropic — Claude model family
  • Google — Gemini model family
Each provider can be independently configured with its own credentials and model availability.

Setting up Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)

1. Open AI Providers in Settings

Log in to clearskies and navigate to SettingsAI Providers in the sidebar. You’ll see a list of supported providers with their current status.

2. Select a provider

Click the provider you want to configure. This opens the provider detail page, where you can manage credentials and models.

3. Enable BYOK

Toggle Enable Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) to on. This expands an input field where you can enter your API key.

4. Enter and save your API key

Paste your API key into the field and click Save. clearskies validates the key with the provider before saving. If validation fails, you’ll see an error with details from the provider — double-check the key and try again. Once saved, all LLM calls to that provider are billed directly to your account at the provider’s standard rates. Your clearskies invoice will only reflect platform fees.

Managing your keys

To rotate a key, navigate to the provider page, click Edit next to your current key, enter the new one, and click Save. The new key is validated before it replaces the previous one, so there’s no interruption to your agents. To revoke a key and switch back to clearskies-managed access, toggle Enable Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) to off and confirm by clicking Revoke. Your agents continue working without interruption — clearskies picks up billing automatically. All credential changes are recorded in your workspace audit log.

Enabling and disabling models

Each provider page includes a Models section where you can enable or disable individual language models for your workspace.
  1. Navigate to SettingsAI Providers and select a provider
  2. Under Models, toggle each model on or off
Disabled models won’t be available for agent configuration across your workspace. This is helpful when you want to standardize which models your team uses, or restrict access to specific model tiers.

Choosing a provider and model per agent

Any user in the workspace can select which provider and model an individual agent uses. When configuring an agent, choose from the models that your admin has enabled. Different tasks benefit from different models. A high-stakes email draft might warrant a stronger model, while a quick Slack Q&A bot can use a faster, lower-cost option. With multiple providers enabled, your team can pick the right balance of quality, speed, and cost for each agent.
