Human review pauses a workflow before an action runs and waits for one person to decide. If the reviewer approves, the action runs and the workflow continues. If they reject, the action is skipped and the run stops. It’s how you keep a human in the loop on the steps that reach the outside world. Human review is a setting on an action step — such as sending a Slack message, sending an email, or writing to Salesforce or HubSpot — not a separate step of its own.

How to use it

  1. Open the action you want to gate and turn on human review.
  2. Choose the one reviewer for the step. A step has exactly one reviewer, specified in one of three ways:
    • a fixed user — a specific person on your team,
    • a variable — a path that resolves to a person when the run reaches the step (for example, the account owner), or
    • a dynamic template — text with variables that resolves to the reviewer at run time.
  3. When a run reaches the step, it waits in that reviewer’s inbox, and the reviewer gets a Slack, email, or in-app notification. On approve, the action runs and the workflow continues. On reject, the action is skipped and the run stops.
